Northland EXCEL

PURPOSE: For participants to develop leadership by learning how to apply skills, knowledge and attitude to guide their neighborhoods to success.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS: Northland EXCEL (Experience in Community Enterprise & Leadership) is an intense learning experience and requires attendance at sponsored sessions from January, 2009 to June, 2009. In order to receive a Certificate of Completion, participants are expected to attend all sponsored sessions, including orientation, retreat and graduation activities.

Desired Outcomes:

  1. For participants to gain knowledge, experience, power, confidence, and networking skills;
  2. For the community to work on a common vision and mission; and
  3. For NNI to develop a successful, mission-driven program that fosters strong leadership in the neighborhoods.

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS:  Applicants from Clay and Platte Counties are encouraged to apply; however, the committee will consider individuals from other parts of the metro. Applicants are not required to live in an organized neighborhood.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:  Call Northland Neighborhoods to obtain an application. Upon receiving all applications, the EXCEL Steering Committee will begin the review process and contact all applicants making them aware of their acceptance or denial into the program.

  5. State Government II - Thursday, February 5, 2009, 6-8:30 p.m.
  6. Local Government - Thursday, February 19, 2009, 6-8:30 p.m.
  7. Community Infrastructure - Thursday, March 5, 2009, 6-8:30 p.m.  
  8. Dialogue I – Thursday, March 19, 2009, 6-8 p.m.
  9. Poverty Simulation - Saturday, April 4, 2009, 9a.m.-1 p.m.  
  10. Education - Thursday, April 9, 2009, 6-8:30 p.m.
  11. Community Economic Development - Thursday, April 23, 2009, 6-8:30 p.m.
  12. Dialogue II - Thursday, May 7, 2009, 6-8:30 p.m.
  13. Public Safety - Thursday, May 21, 2009, 6-8:30 p.m.
  14. City Hall Project - Thursday, June 4, 2009, 6-8:30 p.m.
  15. Where Do We Go From Here? - Thursday, June 18, 2009, 6-8:30 p.m.

SPECIAL PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:  If accepted into the program, applicant will be required to pay $100 for tuition. Tuition must be paid in full prior to the beginning of the course and is non-refundable once the program begins.
