Custom Solutions Program

PURPOSE: The Custom Solutions Program provides home repair services for low income persons residing in Clay and Platte counties, Missouri. The inherent goal is to assist persons with their home repair needs, connect the individual with other social service resources, address how they can help themselves through behavior change, and promote volunteer opportunities where they can contribute back to their community. The program is supported by local government and foundation entities.

FUNDING SOURCE: The primary funding source that supports the Custom Solutions Program is appropriated by Clay County. Additional funding comes from various corporate and philanthropic organizations.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Individuals may obtain an application from Northland Neighborhoods Inc. After completing the application, NNI staff will set an appointment to assess the home and the request for services. If the request for services is within the parameters of the program and all other application questions are verified, NNI staff will send out a Request for Bid and a contractor will set an appointment with the homeowner that is conducive to their schedules. Upon completion of the bid, the staff will contact the homeowner to be sure that they understand what repairs will be made and what they may have to contribute to the project. After everything has been discussed and agreed upon, a Notice to Proceed will be sent to the contractor. If the homeowner is contributing to the project, a check must be made to Northland Neighborhoods, Inc. prior to the commencement of repairs, and NNI will write one check to the contractor after all the work has been completed. At the end of the project, a final inspection occurs and the homeowner indicates the satisfaction level of work by signing a release for NNI to pay the contractor.

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS: Any person residing in Clay or Platte Counties, Missouri, who meets income qualifications and owns their home; is current on their county real estate taxes; has current homeowner’s insurance; and, is current on mortgage payments.

FUNDING LIMITS: Grants range from $0 to $4,500 per project

SPECIAL PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS: Income qualifications are based on Community Development Block Grant requirements that are determined by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The income qualification for the Custom Solutions Program is 60% of the Kansas City Area’s median income.
